Matt's current life in Brooklyn is a far cry from the rural England of his childhood, where he lived a couple of miles from his grandparents farm, spending summers milking cows and baling hay. And, while his houseplants and tree-lined street are a poor substitute for the English countryside, his food choices are much improved.
In his day job as a researcher, Matt captures how and why people do the things they do--by intense observation and by framing conversations, he explores their behavior and motivations. This curiosity (some say obsession) with people and their behaviors, extends to his photography where he attempts to capture some of these same motivations and behaviors. If you catch Matt staring at you, it's purely professional.
Matt's favorite thing to cook is a garlic egg sandwich (following his interest and belief that's it's not what you do, it's how you do it that's important), this does not prevent him from appreciating food of every manner and form. However, he admits his food focus is primarily through its shapes, colors, textures and patterns, and how this visual beauty translates into an expectation of taste.
In addition to The Poetry of Food, Matt is currently working on a projects to capture his travels through photographing his breakfasts and on documenting New York's food vending trucks
